Abstract

Split torque on starting is provided by a torque converter 3-5 in parallel with a fixed reduction gear 9, a disengageable slip clutch 11 and a one-way clutch 12. At the higher ratios drive is through the torque converter, the clutch 12 overrunning if the starting clutch 11 is not disengaged.
