Abstract
1329792 Change-speed gear FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 17 Jan 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 2096/72 Heading F2D Three reduced ratios, direct-drive and one reverse are provided by three identical sun-ring- planet trains, the first two, 12, 14, arranged similar to a Simpson set, in series with the third 16. Connections are as shown and of the three clutches and two brakes, clutch 40 is engaged for all forward ratios; clutch 42 for third, fourth and reverse; clutch 50 for two-way first, fourth and reverse; brake 46 for second; brake 54 for reverse and for two-way drive in first, second and third. A one-way brake 60 takes reaction in one-way first, second and third ratios, and a one-way clutch 56, between the third sun and second carrier is also effective in first ratio, being overrun in second and third. The one-way brake 60 also overruns in fourth, with all three clutches 42, 40 and 50 engaged. In Fig. 5, not shown, the one-way brake (60<SP>1</SP>) acts on the second carrier instead of on the third sun, and the hand brake (54<SP>1</SP>) of the rear sun is applied during each forward reduction ratio. Speed and torque ratios are specified for each gear element.
