Abstract

1,185,022. Cavity walls; concrete frameworks. G. B. HERN. 28 April, 1967 [29 April, 1966], No. 18916/66. Heading E1B. In a method of erecting a building, a framework 25 of beams 20 and pillars 21 of reinforced concrete is cast in situ in the interior cavity space of a cavity wall 6 in successive stages during the building of the wall from hollow cellular moulded plastics bricks 7, tie bricks 7a spanning the cavity being used as supports for horizontal and vertical shuttering 19 and (29), and reinforcing rods 15' projecting from the beam 20 to connect with a corner pillar 21 which will be cast when the bricks have been built to a higher level. The load of the building is carried on concrete footings 5 from which reinforcing bars project through the lower beam members 13 to the vertical pillars to give a secure anchorage. The bottom course of bricks in the cavity wall is supported on a thin concrete base 12. The pillars 21 may be formed by casting into the tubular space formed by a vertically aligned group of tie bricks 7a. Internal floor beams may pass through holes in the inner skin of the cavity wall to be supported on members 20.
