1,184,774. Contacting gases with liquids. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. 22 Jan., 1968 [21 Jan., 1967], No. 3166/68. Heading B1R. A gas/liquid contact column comprises a plurality of stages, one above the other, in which a gas passes upwardly through and transversely to a spray of liquid, each stage comprising an inverted frusto-conical spray element 2 open at both ends and mounted for rotation on a common shaft 3, a liquid collecting trough 7 secured to the inner wall of the column and in the form of a spiral, and a curved conduit 8 connected to the lower end of the trough and delivering collected liquid back to the spray element 2 as shown. Preferably the upper end of each spray element 2 has a disc 6 arranged above it as shown. The conduits 8 may be hingedly or removably connected to the trough 7.
