Abstract

1,184,467. Polyurethane coating. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 31 May, 1967 [22 June, 1966], No. 25056/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions B8 and C3] A synthetic backing material, e.g. of polyester, polyimide or polyamide film, suitably in the form of an endless belt, may be coated with a polyurethane composition comprising 10 to 60% by weight of a polyurethane prepolymer containing terminal isocyanate groups, from 0.5 to 6% by weight of colloidal-sized silica, from 0 to 0.03% by weght of an adhesion promoter agent, from 0 to 6% by weight of pigment, and a chain extender for the prepolymer in an amount of 11 to 13% by weight of the prepolymer, the total solids content of the composition being 25 to 75% by weight and the remainder of the composition being organic solvent. The coating composition is suitably applied to a perforated backing material and simultaneously a vacuum is applied to the surface of the backing material opposite to that which is being coated to prevent clogging of the perforations in the backing material and to catch excess coating composition, and the coated is cured for 2 hours at 175‹F.
