Abstract

1362674 Polyurethane-coated products DAINIPPON INK & CHEMICALS Inc 15 Oct 1971 [29 Dec 1970] 48154/71 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 and C3] Substrates such as fabrics, leather, synthetic leather, synthetic fibres, paper, foam, plastic films, metals and wood may be coated with an aqueous polyurethane dispersion prepared by reacting (A) a polyhydroxy component having an average number of functional groups n exceeding 2.0 and an average equivalent weight of 250 to 2500, (B) an organic diisocyanate and (C) a compound which blocks isocyanate groups at room temperature but which becomes ineffective at 80 to 180‹C, (A), (B) and (C) being used in equivalent ratio amounts to satisfy the relationships. to prepare a partly blocked isocyanate terminated prepolymer and thereafter chain extending the prepolymer in an aqueous medium contaming a surfactant with a chain extender component containing in equivalent ratio an average of 0.2 to 2.0 hydroxyl groups relative to the amount of blocked isocyanate groups and an average of 0.8 to 1.2 amino groups relative to the amount of unblocked free isocyanate groups (see Division C3). The aqueous dispersion may be cured by heating to a temperature which unblocks the isocyanate groups. In Example 30, nylon taffeta, polyester and cotton fabrics are coated with an aqueous dispersion prepared from the following components: polyoxypropylene glycol, polyoxypropylene triol, tolylene diisocyanate, methyl ethyl ketoxine as blocking agent and piperazine and diethanolamine as chain extending agents. Another similar Examples describes the coating of polypropylene, polyethylene and polyvinyl chloride films suitable for wrapping foodstuffs.
