Abstract

1417218 Foamed polyurethane coatings RHONE-POULENC SA 24 Oct 1973 [25 Oct 1972] 49562/73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5 C3 and Dl] Coated articles are prepared by applying to a support a solution in an organic solvent of a linear polyurethane, containing a heatdecomposable pore-forming agent having a decomposition temperature of at least 180‹C and optionally, an activator for the poreforming agent and/or a filler, heating the assembly first to a temperature sufficient to remove the solvent but insufficient to decompose the pore-forming agent and then heating the assembly to a temperature sufficient to decompose the pore-forming agent. The support may be a plastics film, a woven or non-woven fabric or paper. Preferred poreforming agents are nitrogen-releasing compounds e.g. azodicarbonamide, azo-bis-isobutyrodinitrile, p-toluene-sulphoazide, 1, 1'- azo-1-cyano-cyclohexane and diisopropyl azodicarboxylate. Drying of the solution takes place suitably at a temperature below 115- 120‹C and formation of the cellular structure at a temperature of 180 to 220‹C.
