Abstract

1,184,269. Lock nuts. H. RIEKE. 27 Nov., 1968, No. 56317/68. Heading F2H. A lock-nut or bolt comprising a bearing face 3 is provided with a sealing ring 5 of resilient material accommodated partly within an annular recess, the sealing ring 5 being urged partly into further recesses 10 in the fastener when the fastener is secured to a co-operating fastener. The fastener may comprise a brass or steel body portion 1 having a hexagonal crosssection and a cylindrical collar extension 2 which defines the bearing face 3. The sealing ring 5 which may be of polyamide resin or of natural or synthetic rubber may be bonded to the annular recess which has a flat bottom wall 4 and a curved side wall 6, the ring 5 being provided with a thread 9 of same pitch and diameter in the relaxed condition of the ring 5 as a thread 8 extending through the body portion 1. The further recesses 10 may comprise a plurality of grooves extending radially of the annular recess and being spaced circumferentially thereof.
