1459222 Screw sockets A B COMENS 6 June 1974 [30 Aug 1973] 40945/73 Heading F2H A non-expansible screw socket for use in chipboard is an open-ended cylindrical sleeve of plastics material, e.g. nylon, having on its outer surface individual annular or part-annular ribs 4 and at least one longitudinal rib 6 the apex 8 of which lies proud of the apices of the annular ribs 4. The sleeve ends are identical, and the sleeve has a plain bore 10 in the wall of which the thread of a self-tapping screw bites. The sleeve may be retained in a bore solely by resilient engagement of the ribs in the bore, but an adhesive may be used as well.
