Abstract
1,046,601. Pipe couplings; locking nuts. FLIGHT REFUELLING Ltd. Oct. 8, 1965 [Jan. 1, 1965], No. 104/65. Headings F2G and F2H. A bush 14 slidable between stops 25, 27 has cylindrical and part spherical surfaces 18, 19 which engage complementary surfaces provided by overlapping members 10, 11 and is formed with grooves 21, 22 for packing rings 23, 24. The member 11 has longitudinal grooves 26 which allows the bush to be inserted in the member and then turned to the position shown. Pipes 12, 13 are formed with ribs 29 which bear against inclined surfaces 28 of the members 10, 11, sealing rings 31 being compressed by nuts 33 which are locked by spring washers 35 of helical form each having a bent end which engages in a slot 37, Fig. 1 (not shown), in the member 10 or 11 and a bent oblique portion 39 which engages one of a series of notches 40 in a nut 33 to prevent the latter rotating in the unscrewing direction thereof. A split backing ring 32 of polytetrafluoroethylene is interposed between each nut and a ring 31. In a modification, the bush is retained against endwise movement by an internally tapered ring secured in the member 11 by a split, spring ring.
