Abstract

1,184,240. Linking and twisting sausages. R. VIERVOLL. 19 Dec., 1967 [1 Aug., 1967], No. 57591/67. Heading A2B. In a method for linking and twisting a length of stuffed sausage casing by constricting it at predetermined spaced intervals to form link points and rotating the resulting lengths alternately in opposite directions, the casing is fed to a pair of parallel rollers, rotating in the same sense about their longitudinal axes, mounted on a member that rotates about an axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the rollers, the rotation of the member firstly allowing a length of the stuffed casing to come into contact with one side of the pair of rollers and to be supported and rotated by the rollers in one sense, and secondly causing the casing to be gripped and bent at the ends of the rollers to form a link point and then causing the immediately following length of stuffed casing to be supported, on the other side of the pair of rollers and rotated in the opposite sense by the rollers. Fig. 1 shows one suitable apparatus, the rollers 30, 32 rotating in the direction of the arrows, and the assembly being rotatable about axis 24, the necking occurring in yokes 62, 64, the apparatus being operated by turning handle 25.
