Abstract

1,181,462. Severing animal joints. GAINESVILLE MACHINE CO. Inc. 2 Jan., 1968, No. 238/68. Heading A2U. In an apparatus for separating the feet from the legs of fowl suspended by their feet from conveyer 64, each hock joint H is pushed by rotating positioning wheel 46 between oppositely rotating, vertically offset and relatively inclined elongated rolls 22, 23 to bend the joint, an incision is made in the joint by rotating circular knife 30, and then the joint is completely severed through the incision by rotating larger knife 34, the knife 30 being sharper than knife 34. The joint is bent further adjacent knife 34 than adjacent knife 30 due to the inclination of the rolls. The wheel 46 has a recess 58 and pins 60 around its periphery. Roll 23 is rougher than roll 22.
