Abstract

1,184,067. Chairs. TAN-SAD CHAIR CO. (1931) Ltd. 24 Oct., 1967 [27 July, 1966; 8 April, 1967], Nos. 33688/66 and 16215/67. Heading A4J. The support bar 13 for the back rest of a chair is longitudinally slidable and pivotable in the throat 18 of a head 17 integral with the seat and has a series of holes 25 for receiving a pin 23 projecting into the throat. The engagement of the pin and a hole is maintained by the weight of the back rest and by a blade spring 28. Angular movement of the support bar to disengage the pin 23 can be prevented by a locking cap 33 slidable on the support bar and adapted to fit snugly into the upper part of the throat 18. In a further embodiment (Fig. 7) a back rest (115) is vertically adjustable on a bar (113) by means of a device (114) similar to the device just described and the lower end of the bar (113) extends horizontally and is adjustably secured to the seat by a further similar device (114a). The locking cap (133a) of the further device (114a) slides horizontally and may be spring loaded. In a third embodiment (Figs. 8-10) the support bar (213) is slidably and pivotally mounted in a channel section member (219) which is pivoted by a pin (222) to the seat (211) so that the angular position of the back rest can be adjusted. A bolt 232 moves in arcuate slots 230 in the seat and is used to clamp the back rest in adjusted position. The support bar (213) is held in engagement with the pin (236) by a pivoted spring loaded locking block (240).
