Abstract

1,183,762. Photoconductive powder. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. 10 Feb., 1967 [12 Feb., 1966], No. 6443/67. Heading H1K. [Also in Division G2] A photoconductive powder composition comprises a mixture or agglomerate of a photoconductive powder and a transparent powder, said transparent powder having an absorption rate of less than 80% to light to which the powder is sensitive when the transparent powder is a film 5 Á thick. It is preferred that the photoconductive powder is bonded to the surface of the transparent powder. The photoconductive powder is preferably Se, S, CdS, HgI 2 , ZnO, TiO 2 , anthracene or a phthalocyanine. The transparent powder may be poly methyl or ethyl methacrylate, copoly vinyl chloride and acetate, copoly styrene and n-butyl methacrylate, silicone resin, glass beads, an inorganic salt or a metal oxide. Copper stearate may be added to aid dispersion whilst Eosin Y may be used as a sensitizing dyestuff. The photoconductive composition may be prepared by dispersing the photoconductive powder and/or the transparent powder in a liquid, vapour or gas, which does not dissolve or corrode the powders, mixing the photoconductive powder and the transparent powder, and drying and/or pulverizing the mixture. The liquid, vapour or gas used may swell, dissolve or corrode the surface of the powders but still allow them to retain their granular form. The photoconductive composition may be mixed with a binder after its preparation and/or heated to give incipient fusion of the grains. Photoconductive compositions sensitive to IR, U.V. radio-active and particle rays may be made.
