Abstract

1,211,940. Photo-conductive powder. FUJI SHASHIN FILM K.K. Feb.9, 1968 [Feb.9, 1967(2)], No.6544/68. Heading G2H. [Also in Division H1] Photo-conductive particles for forming powder images in an electrostatographic process are made by dispersing a resin monomer and powdered photoconductor particles or a resin monomer having powdered photo-conductor particles dispersed therein, a liquid medium which has little or no compatibility with the monomer and while maintaining the dispersed condition, polymerizing the monomer. The photo-conductor particles may be Se, S, CdS, HgI 2 ZnO, TiO 2 , anthracene or a phthalocyanine, a non-photo-conductive powder coated with a photoconductor. The monomer may be styrene, ethylene, vinyl acetate, ethyl acrylate, methyl butyl or ethyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, acrylamide methacrylamide, vinyl isobutyl ether, vinyl hexyl ketone, vinylidene chloride or N-vinyl carbazole benzolyl peroxide may be incorporate in the dispersion as a polymerisation initiator-copper stearate may be used to aid the dispersion. Mixtures of monomers may be used. Thus in one example, a dispersion of CdS and sodium polymethacrylate in water is added to a dispersion of methyl methacrylate, styrene and benzoyl peroxide, the mixture heated and the precipitate filtered and dried. This precipitate has the CdS mainly at the surface of the particles. A mixture of CdS and ZnO is used in another example. The photo-conductive particles may incorporate sensitizing dyestuffs.
