Abstract
1,183,558. Tunnels. PHILIPP HOLZMANN A.G. 7 June, 1968 [10 June, 1967], No. 27118/68. Heading E1F. A tunnel ring is composed of a plurality of steel channel members containing concrete arranged so that the steel members and not the concrete take-up hoop stresses in the ring thus allowing the steel members to deform elastically. Within each channel the concrete may be arranged in separate sections separated by bitumen. Alternatively slots filled with bitumen may be arranged in that face of the concrete which is subjected to compressive forces. The ring may be composed of four arcuate channel members each of which may have a central T-sectioned web. A lubricant may be applied to the channel members to prevent adherence of the concrete and to prevent corrosion of the members. An inner layer of concrete may be applied to the ring after deformation, if say, of the channel members.
