Abstract
1,183,212. Two-part couplings. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS Inc. 28 July, 1967 [8 Nov., 1966], No. 34821/67. Heading H2E. Identical halves 12 of a socket contact, Fig. 4, can pivot about tapered surfaces 22, which are clamped together by rods 21, so that insertion of a tapered contact pin 23 in one end of the socket enables a lead wire 11, e.g. of a transistor to be tested, to be gripped between the halves 12 at the other end of the socket. A shield contact 14 and plastics separator 13, Fig. 1, may surround the socket contact, several such shielded contacts 12-14 being pivotally mounted in bores in an insulating housing 18 by engagement of the rods 21 in aligned notches 32. The tapered contact pins 23 are each surrounded by a plastics separator 16 and a shield contact 17 with shoulders 27 (28, Fig. 2, not shown), which retain the shielded contacts 23-17 in bores in an insulating housing 19, the pins 23 having forward and rearward enlargements 25 (29) which hold them in the separators 16. On engagement of the pins 23 in the sockets 12, lead wires 11 are gripped by the rear ends of the sockets and the shield contacts 14, 17 abut at the forward faces of the housings 18, 19. The retaining rods are of insulating material, and the pins 23 of a beryllium-copper alloy.
