Abstract

1,015,479. Two-part couplings; plug boards O. DUNKEL. Oct. 9, 1964 [Oct. 25, 1963], No.41242/64. Heading H2E. A miniature connector comprises a socket having a number of spring contact strips 11, each embedded in a resilient insulating insert 10 and carrying at its forward end a spring contact wire, and a plug having contact strips 1 of substantially rectangular cross-section which are firmly embedded in an insulating insert 2 and protected from damage by a sleeve 4 which also acts as a guide for mating the two members. The socket insulating insert may have an irregular cross-section so that it can only mate with a correspondingly shaped sleeve of a plug. The sleeve may have an indent 8 to engage in a groove 16 of the socket insert. The leads 3 and 13 are soldered to the rear portions of their corresponding contacts within rubber sleeves 6 or 14 which are then filled with sealing compound 7 and 15. A number of plug inserts may be combined to form a unit (Fig. 7), by means of sleeve strips 20 which in pairs enclose the inserts, and are fixed at their free ends to frame 22. A number of the socket contacts may be electrical connected together by plate 24 (Fig. 9) to form a programming plug, which may itself be provided with a further socket 26 preferably in the plug-grip 25. A short-circuiting plug 27 may be used to interconnect the further sockets of two adjacent programming plugs. This short-circuiting plug 27 may itself be provided with a contact socket 29 for connection to programming cord 30.
