Abstract

1,183,008. Electric incandescent lamp. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 26 April, 1968 [12 May, 1967(2)], No. 19861/68. Heading H1F. The filament 6a and/or the reflector 25 are supported by tungsten member 12a, the lower end of which is welded to a molybdenum foil 14a embedded in the pinch seal of the lamp 1a together with molybdenum foils 4a which are joined to the filament 6a via platinum tabs. A rigid wire portion 15a is provided for foil 14a to assist the assembling of the filament and support (Fig. 4, not shown) but this wire is cut off at the pinch seal after assembly. The lamp is filled with an inert gas, e.g. N 2 , Ar, Kr or Xe and optionally iodine, hydrogen bromide or a bromohydrocarbon. The envelope of the lamp may be made of fused silica or quartz. In alternative embodiments the filament support is a hook, a T-piece or a double J-piece (Figs. 1, 14, 15 and 16, not shown). In another embodiment (Figs. 10 and 11, not shown) only the reflector (25b) is supported whilst in another embodiment (Figs. 12 and 13, not shown) both the filament and reflector are supported.
