Abstract

1,182,532. Device for mowing standing vegetation. GEBR. DE HAAN N.V. 15 March, 1968 [15 March, 1967], No. 12653/68. Heading A1F. A mowing machine is provided with mowing drums 4 mounted on rotatable vertical parallel shafts 5, supported at their upper ends in a gear casing 1 the lower ends of the drums 4 being rotatably supported through pins 11 by a bottom plate 2, rigidly connected to the gear casing 1 by upright bars 3, and whose lower sides are provided with convex sliding surfaces which contact the soil. The upper and lower mountings of the drums 4 are provided with ball bearings 6, 10 and the drums 4 are driven from a main drive shaft 9 through bevel gears 7, 8. They are generally arranged in pairs driven such that cutting knives 16, of which there are preferably at least six mounted regularly around a projecting flange 15 rotate towards the interspace between each pair, the knives of adjacent drums being staggered to prevent impingement as their paths overlap to ensure complete mowing. A recess (17), Fig. 2 (not shown), formed in the bottom plate 2 allows free access of the cutting knives to the vegetation as the mowing machine advances.
