1297479 Harvesting machines MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AG 19 April 1971 [13 March 1970] 23883/71 Heading A1F A maize harvester carries at the front a picking unit for removing the cobs from the stalks and a stalk cutter and comminuter 4 comprising a stationary blade 12 co-operating with a rotating cutting disc 7 inclined to the ground at between 15‹ and 20‹ and carrying blades 9 having cutting edges 10 at an angle α, open in the direction of rotation, of less than 180‹ to the radial planes through their innermost ends and at an angle #, open towards the disc axis, (Fig. 4 not shown) of less than 90‹ to the plane of rotation of the blade tips. Runners 6 are mounted on the forwardly extending entrance to the cutter casing 5 and the stationary blade 12 is mounted at the entrance of the ejection opening 13 and inclined to form an angle, open in the direction of travel of the blades 9, of 90‹ or less with the upper inclined surface of an adjacent blade 9. The stalk cutter 4 is pivotally mounted to cross beam 3 and driven from an intermediate gear 14 of the picking device 2 via chain 15 and sprocket 16 carried by plate 17 fixed to the device 2. An articulated telescopic shaft 18 extends from the sprocket 16 to the bevel gear 19 of the cutter 4 and a further articulated shaft may extend to gears 19 of a second cutter 4 mounted similarly but independently alongside the first.
