1,182,434. Straightening. MASCHINENUND BOHRGERATE-FABRIK ALFRED WIRTH & CO. K.G. 7 June, 1967 [15 June, 1966], No. 26284/67. Heading B3E. A roller straightening machine for section bars comprises a base-plate and two uprights connected by a bridge and has overhanging upper and lower straightening axles in staggered relation to one another, each carrying a straightener roller on its free end, the distance between the axles being variable in a direction parallel to the work feed direction and the machine also having one or more pairs of calibrating rollers carried on the free ends of overhanging axles, the axes of which lie in a common vertical plane. The machine comprises a base 38, side uprights 1 and a common connecting beam 39. The centre lower straightening roller 15 rotates about a fixed axis and the outer rollers 14 and 16 are adjustable parallel to the feed path of the work material by devices 31, 35. The upper rollers 17-20 are individually adjustable parallel to the work material feed-path by motors and gearing 21-28. At the inlet end of the machine are two additional rollers 4 and 5 which perform a calibrating or an auxiliary bending operation. The upper roller rotates on a fixed spindle 2 and the lower roller rotates on a spindle 3 and is adjusted vertically by a shaft 12. The spindles 2 and 3 are independently driven by motors 10 and (11), Fig. 2 (not shown). There are inlet and outlet rollers 13 at each end of the straightening section, the rollers 13 being adjustable by devices 32 and 36 in a direction parallel to the work material feed path.
