Abstract

1,181,250. Crimping yarns. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 28 Dec., 1967, No. 58787/67. Headings D1F and D1W. Fibrillated thermoplastic tape is crimped by enforced passage through a stuffer-box. The crimp may comprise both a kinked and a looped configuration if the initial tape comprises two or more layers which, at the same temperature, have different stress-strain relationships. Two or more tapes or bundles thereof, flat or twisted, separate or entangled may be simultaneously crimped. The crimped tape &c may be cut into clippings and further disintegrated to staple fibre. Tape materials include polyolefins, polyamides, polyesters such as those derived from glycol and terephthalic acid and polymers of pivalolactone, polymers of vinylesters.
