Abstract

1,257,643. Ropes of thermoplastic fibres. TOUGH ROPES Ltd. 10 Jan., 1969 [23 Jan., 1968], No. 3515/68. Heading D1T. Ropes of thermoplastic fibres selected from the group comprising polyesters, polyamides, polyolefines and polyvinyl alcohol are made by combining at least two of these fibres having different melting points by twisting or spinning the fibres to form a yarn in which the fibres of higher melting point, e.g. polyester are enclosed by the fibres of lower melting point, e.g. polyolefin. The rope is then constructed from this yarn in known manner. The higher melting point fibres may be continuous filaments and the others may be staple fibres. Alternatively all may be of continuous form or all may be in staple form. The yarn may be formed by twisting a ribbon of polyolefin, e.g. polyethylene fibre round a continuous thread of polyester, e.g. terylene (Registered Trade mark). The rope preferably contains 30-70% of the lowest melting point fibre. [GB1257643A]
