Abstract

1,180,926. Metal containers. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. 28 June, 1967 [28 June, 1966], No. 28864/66. Heading B8D. A metal shipping container, Fig. I (not shown), is formed in two parts 1, 2 the open ends of which are joined by means of an organic adhesive 18, of a type which melts or disintegrates when heat or a solvent is applied, so that the container may be disassembled for cleaning. Alternatively, the adhesive 18 may be used to secure end walls of the container to its side wall. One of the interfitting portions 7, 8 may be folded back on itself, thereby sealing the adhesive layer 18 from the container contents Fig. 6 (not shown); or the portions 7, 8 may both be either outwardly flared, Fig. 7 (not shown), or inwardly tapered, Fig. 8 (not shown), without overlapping, the join being effected by means of a biconical ring inside or outside the container side wall respectively. The ends (3, 6), which may be welded, are as shown in Fig. 4. The adhesive may be applied in powder form to the areas to be joined which are pre-coated and heated.
