Abstract
1,180,299. Anodizing aluminium & alloys thereof. CONTRAVES A. G. Sept.10, 1968 [Dec.21, 1967; April 2, 1968], No. 42914/68. Heading C7B. Corrosion-preventing protective layers are produced on bodies of aluminium or aluminium alloys by anodizing in acid baths formed by admixing compounds of titanium, zirconium or thorium and salts of cobalt and/or nickel to an initial solution of chromic acid, e. g. the anodizing bath may contain potassium - titanium 1V - oxalate, cobalt acetate, chromic acid, nickel sulphate or acetate, a small proportion of sulphuric acid for dissolving the K-Ti-oxalate, and be buffered by addition of boric acid. The coating formed may be electro-plated with copper, nickel, chromium, silver or gold, and prior to electro-plating may be activated by dipping in a phosphoric acid bath.
