Abstract

1,180,278. Stirrers; magnetic drives. WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd. 1 March, 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11270/67. Heading B1C. A stirrer 11 is driven through a magnetic coupling comprising multipolar ceramic ring magnets 3, 14 separated by a non-magnetic plate 7 which forms a cover for the container. The magnets are preferably attached to magnetizable stainless steel backing plates 2. The cover plate is reduced in thickness between the magnets the separation of which is determined by bushes 12, 13. The stirrer is preferably detachable (see Fig. 2, not shown) and is supported as shown by the cover plate, or by a casing which forms a chamber sealed from the container and containing the driven magnet, see Fig. 3 (not shown).
