Abstract

1,180,266. Coated solid fuels. BAILEY INVENTIONS CORP. 18 Aug., 1967, No. 38286/67. Heading C5G. [Also in Division C1] A solid carbonaceous fuel for a lime kiln is prepared by coating pieces of coke, coal or a carbonaceous substance with a low volatile content, with a solid but meltable refractory material, e.g. a mixture of lime and silica melting between 1600‹ and 1800‹ F. The mixture is applied to the fuel pieces as a slurry. Preferably hot coke direct from the coking operation is immersed in the slurry and, as the coke cools, the refractory material is sucked into the coke pores giving a strongly adherent coating. For cement production, a similar fuel may be used with a coating melting at 2300‹ to 2400‹ F.
