Abstract

The fire stability of coal briquettes is improved by adding sodium tripolyphosphate to the starting materials, or coating the finished briquette with that compound. The added phosphate is preferably less than 2% b.w. of the briquette, and optional binders and additives include pitch, tar, clay, water-glass, sulphilt liquor, alumina and quartz.
