Abstract

1,179,759. Mining machines with rotary cutters. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK U. EISENGIESSEREI m.b.H. GEBI. 23 Nov., 1967 [23 Nov., 1966], No. 5329/67. Heading E1F. A mining machine 1 having a rotary cutter 4 and a space clearing member 6 pivotable about the axis 7 of the cutter has a flexible mechanical force. Transmitting device 16 drivably connected to the member 6 and movable in a guide path concentric with the axis 7 and having a length corresponding to the angular movement of the member 6 from side to side of the cutter, the device 16 being operated by jacks 14. The machine 1 travels on a face conveyor 2, and the cutter 4 is mounted on the free end of a pivotal arm and has helically extending bars on its periphery serving to move cut coal towards the conveyor 2. The member 6 is carried by arms 8 on a ring 9 rotatably supported on the cutter casing and has a pivotable side piece 11 which is movable so as to extend towards the conveyor 2 or to lie in the plane of the arms 8; in the latter position the side piece 11 clears the cutter arm to permit movement of the member 6 from side to side of the cutter. The force transmitting device may include bunched wire, stiff helical springs or a roller chain but preferably is formed by a row of. balls 19 propelled by pistons 15. A member 21 connected to the ring 9 is disposed midway along the row of balls.
