Abstract

In the crucible-free zone-melting of a rod, using the Peltier effect resulting from the passage of a direct current through the rod, there is employed a seed crystal which is orientated with the crystallographic axis of greatest Peltier effect in line with the axis of the rod. An external heater around the molten zone may also be employed.
