Abstract

1,177,712. Boots &c. CRANE & PERCIVAL Ltd. 2 Oct., 1968 [10 Oct., 1967], No. 46283/67. Heading A3B. A shoe includes a shank stiffener 2 and a backing member 1 consisting of a length of self supporting material e.g. a nylon moulding, which is longer than the shank stiffener 2 and which is provided with an aperture 10 intermediate its ends, the shank stiffener 2 being slotted through the aperture 10 so that the ends of the shank stiffener lie on opposite sides of the backing member 1. Preferably the shank stiffener 2 lies below the backing member in the heel region and above it in the sole region. The backing member 1 has grooves 13, 15 on its opposite faces so that the stiffener 2 lies flush with the surfaces of the backing member 1. The stiffener 2 and backing member 1 are incorporated in a shoe between the outsole 19 and a cushioning layer or insole 22.
