Abstract

1,177,143. Nitriding steel sheet. BUCKBEE MEARS CO. May 18, 1967 [Feb.6, 1967], No.23102/67. Heading C7U. Cold-rolled steel sheet having a multiplicity of small apertures, particularly for use in the aperture masks of colour television tubes is given a surface coating by inserting it into an atmosphere of nitrogen gas, raising the temperature of the latter to a peak of 1200‹ F., and immediately that is reached allowing the temperature to decrease to 600‹ F. The atmosphere may be pre-heated to 500‹ F. to 800‹ F. prior to insertion of the sheet; it may be heated from 500‹ F. to 1200‹ F. in about 10 minutes.
