Abstract

1,176,634. Rotary-scythe mowers. G. D. MOUNTFIELD Ltd. 26 Nov., 1968 [8 Feb., 1968], No. 6289/68. Heading A1F. A grass box for a rotary lawn mower is blow-moulded from thermoplastics (e.g. polyethylene) and includes a fine mesh expanded metal screen 19 which divides the box into two compartments 17, 18, the front of the box being provided with an opening 9 in the lower compartment 18, the opening 9 being closed, in use of the box, by a hinged metal cover 10 having a smaller opening 12 therein. The upper compartment has two air exhaust openings 20, 21. In operation, the opening 12 in the cover 10 co-operates with the grass outlet of the mower, and air which carries the cut grass from the mower into the box passes through the screen 19 and is exhausted through openings 20, 21 while the grass is retained in lower compartment 18 by screen 19. For emptying the box, it is lifted by a handle 8 and cover 10 then opens to allow grass to fall out.
