Abstract

1,176,150. L-Glutamic acid. TAKEDA YAKUHIN KOGYO K.K. 20 Dec., 1966 [28 Dec., 1965], No. 56873/66. Heading C2C. L-Glutamic acid is produced by cultivating Brevibacterium microorganisms that require oleic acid but no biotin for their growth in a culture medium containing sugar sources and oleic acid or its derivatives, accumulating L- glutamic acid therein and recovering it. Specified microorganisms are Brevibacterium thiogenitalis D-248 (I.F.O. 12331), B, sp. s-09 (I.F.O. 12332), and a novel strain B. thiogenitalis No. 653 (characteristics given); and the preferred forms of oleic acid are its alkali metal salts and its esters, the concentration preferably being from 20γ-2000γ per millilitre expressed as oleic acid.
