An ink-ribbon guide for a vibrator 11 has two ribbon guiding recesses 15 on opposite edges defined by outwardly directed upper and lower lugs 16 and 21. A gate structure 18 formed of stiff wire and comprising a pivotally mounted gate arm 19, spans each recess 15 to form a closed ribbon guiding eye 22, Fig. 2. Each arm 18 is constantly biased (either by gravity or by a spring not illustrated) to assume a closed-eye position, but is so mounted that when a stretch of ribbon is lowered behind the guide and pulled forward into the recesses (Fig. 3), the arms 18 are pushed to the open-eye position by the ribbon and then drop behind the ribbon to the closed-eye position (Fig. 4). The wire of each arm 18 is extended beyond the pivot bushing 17 formed in the upper lug 16, to form a handle 26. The handles 26 enable the arms 18 to be moved to the open-eye position (Fig. 5) to facilitate ribbon removal. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 6) each gate arm (39) of moulded polyethylene has a hole (49) in line with a hole in the upper lug (37). A U-shaped member (48) has one leg (47) extending pivotally through the hole in the lug (37) and fitted to the hole (49) in the arm (39). The outer leg (51) of the U-shaped member is press fitted into a hole of an arm (46) forwardly extending from the gate arm (39). As an alternative, gate arms of shorter length reaching toward each other from both lugs 16 and 21 may be provided.
