Abstract

1,176,076. Lubricants. MOBIL OIL CORP. 26 May, 1967 [27 May, 1966], No. 24679/67. Heading C5F. An emulsifiable lubricating composition comprises: (1) a positive quantity up to 50%, by weight, of a lubricating oil; (2) 20-30%, by weight, of a solid C 14 -C 26 saturated aliphatic mono-carboxylic acid, e.g. stearic acid; (3) 3-12%, by weight, of a C 2 -C 4 alkanolamine, e.g. triethanolamine; (4) 5-10%, by weight, of an alkyl or aryl phosphate ester containing up to 20 carbon atoms, e.g. tricresyl phosphate; (5) 5-10%, by weight, of an organic alkylene oxide derivative having a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of at least 10; and (6) 0À1-1À5%, by weight, of an aromatic sulphonate. Ingredient (5) may be obtained from a C 2 -C 4 alkylene oxide and an alkyl phenol containing from 8 to 18 carbon atoms, an alcohol containing from 10 to 36 carbon atoms, a fatty acid, an ester of a fatty acid and a polyol or a fatty acid amide, the fatty acid containing from 8 to 30 carbon atoms, e.g. an N-acyl dialkanolamide. Ingredient (6) may be a metal salt of an alkaryl sulphonic acid or a condensate of sodium naphthalene sulphonate and formaldehyde. The lubricating oil may be mineral or synthetic, e.g. esters, polyolefines and alkylene oxide derivatives. Many examples of all ingredients are given. The composition may also contain a liquid C 12 -C 22 fatty acid, e.g. oleic or linoleic acid, in combination with a C 10 -C 18 fatty acid amide, e.g. lauroyl amide.
