Abstract

1,175,900. Process for the enzymatic saccharification of starch. NIPPON SHIRYO KOGYO CO. Ltd. 25 May, 1967 [7 Oct., 1966; 21 Jan., 1967], No. 24368/67. Addition to 1,121,100. Heading C2C. A process for the enzymatic saccharification of starch into maltose comprises heating a starch slurry having a concentration greater than 20% by wt. at a temperature of 120- 160‹ C. and evaporating a part of the water from the slurry to produce a starch paste, cooling the paste, adding a source of betaamylase to the starch paste whilst simultaneously mixing the starch paste with partially hydrolysed starch liquor obtained by the partial hydrolysis of a previously prepared mixture of said starch paste and said starch liquor, and allowing a part of the resulting mixture to undergo hydrolysis. The slurry may first be momentarily subjected to alpha amylolysis during heating to reduce the viscosity thereof and the subsequent cooling step may be carried out by allowing the paste to fall through air by passage through a perforated plate in the form of a multitude of streams.
