Abstract

A soap bar is prepared from a fat charge with an iodine value of 35 and consisting of 50 parts of nut oil and 50 parts of a mixture of tallowclass fat and soft oil, the weight ratio of tallowclass fat to soft oil being between 3:1 and 4:1. Nut oil fatty acids contain at least 40% lauric acid; examples of suitable nut oils are coconut oil, palm kernel oil and babussu oil. Acids from soft oil contain at least 60% of oleic acid, no acids with chain lengths equal to or less than 12 carbon atoms and at least 75% unsaturated acids; specified examples of soft oils are olive oil and ground-nut oil. The soap bar may contain 1.5 to 5% or 8 to 16% of free fatty acids; preferably the fatty acids used are the same as those from which the fat charge is derived.
