Abstract

117,535. Musted, G. G., and Becket, W. R. Sept. 22, 1917. Man-hole doors.-A door 1 for ballast and other tanks is secured inside the tank plating 3 by bolts 5 arranged around the edge of the door adjacent to the edge of the tank plating and passing through holes in an outer ring member 6, which overlaps the edge of the plating and bears against the door. The door may be joggled or stepped so that its outer surface is brought out flush with the outer surface of the plating, or with the outer surface of the ring member. Studs or projections may be provided on the ring member to form bearing surfaces for a plane door plate. The door plate may be secured to a joggled or stepped door frame so shaped that all parts of the door and frame are below the level of the plating.
