Abstract
1,175,274. Moulding plastic substances. IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd. 14 June, 1968 [4 July, 1967], No. 30777/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F3] Frangible lead-free bullet is made by mixing zinc powder or iron powder or a mixture of zinc and iron powders with a solution of a thermosetting resin containing 0À10 to 1À5% by weight of the weight of the metal content of the mixture of the resin, evaporating the solvent, e.g. acetone pressing the mixture in bullet moulds, and curing the resin. The resin is an epoxy resin and is cured at 250‹ to 160‹ C. for between 10 minutes and 3 hours. The resin may contain a plasticizer such as tritolyl phosphate. Graphite may be included in the resin solution, or added to the metal and resin residue after evaporation of the solvent.
