Abstract
1,175,080. Respiratory masks. INTERTECHNIQUE. 22 June, 1967 [30 June, 1966], No. 28774/67. Heading AST. [Also in Division A3] A head band S for supporting apparatus such as a breathing mask/microphone A comprises flexible extensible tubes (1a) (1b) Fig. 3 (not shown), encased in and connected by a fabric sheath 2 and each coupled at one end via a duct 4 to a compressed-gas distributor 5. The distributor is connected by a tube 6 to a source of gas which may be the oxygen supply to the mask. When a valve control knob 7 is depressed the tubes (1a), (1b) are inflated up to the limit allowed by the fabric sheath (Figs. 2 and 3 not shown) at which point they are substantially rigid and can be easily engaged over the wearer's head. On release of the knob the band grips the wearer's head. In alternative embodiments, an auxiliary band s Fig. 6 (not shown) passes over the top of the head or Fig. 7 (not shown) the fabric web Sa between the tubes (1a), (1b increases in width from front to back of the user's head and supports earphones (E). The latter form of band combined with the auxiliary band s may be incorporated in a fabric helmet (F), Fig. 8 (not shown). Hydraulic means may replace the pneumatic means described.
