A catalytic radiant heater has a housing 2 into which a mixture of a fuel such as propane and air is fed and a face 3 which has a ceramic support therein provided with channels (4) to direct the gas flow and a layer of a catalyst such as platinum deposited on a layer of alumina on the support.
