Abstract
1,174,646. Laminated spring suspensions. L. J. HUMPHREYS, [trading as HUMPHREYS]. 23 Sept., 1968 [23 June, 1967], No. 29058/67. Heading B7D. [Also in Division F2] A vehicle suspension comprises a leaf spring 10 having mounting means which allow a pivotal movement at one end 11 and longitudinal sliding movement at the other, the mounting at each end comprising a mounting plate, 13, 20, which is attachable to the vehicle body and to which the end of the spring is resiliently clamped. At the pivoted end 11 of the spring 10, the clamping means comprise plate 17 and nuts 18 on studs 16, with resilient pads 14 and 15 being placed on opposite sides of the end 11. An upturned portion 11a of the spring engages freely in a transverse slot 12 of the mounting plate 13. The other end 19 is located between bearing pads 22 and 23 made of nylon or metal faced with nylon or other hard-wearing material and is clamped by spring-loaded nuts 26. A resilient pad (27), Fig. 4 (not shown), may be used instead of springs 25 and the two mounting plates 13, 20 may be welded to the end parts of a metal fixing strap (28) bolted to the vehicle.
