Abstract

887,633. Axle connections. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Oct. 26, 1960 [Oct. 26, 1959], No. 36804/60. Class 108(2). A motor vehicle resilient axle connection comprises a rubber or other resilient pad between the axle housing and a leaf spring and fastening means having stop means associated with them to limit the compressive loading of the pad. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 2, 3 a pair of resilient pads 24, 28 is provided on either side of a leaf spring 12 intermediate its ends and held between a spring seat 21 on the axle housing and a lower spring plate 33 by a pair of U-bolts 36. Upset flanges on the U-bolts on which plate 33 seats limit the compression of the pad to a predetermined figure when the nuts 38 are tightened. The components are retained in position by the spring leaf clamping bolt 18 and nut 19 fitting in holes 27 in the pads (Fig. 5) and the guide sleeves 23, which are bonded to the pads, engaging in apertures 22, 24 in spring seat 21 and plate 33. A flanged retainer plate 29 may be used for one or both pads and in an alternative pad (Fig. 6, 7, not shown) a series of holes to soften the pad are provided. A flanged guide sleeve 23 may also be embedded in the rubber when moulding the pad.
