Abstract
1,174,632. Catheters. KENDALL CO. 5 May, 1967 [9 May, 1966], No. 21062/67. Heading A5R. A catheter comprises a length of flexible tubing 11 having a lumen 23 extending along it to an orifice 13 in the end 12 of the tubing, and a shield 19 mounted on the tubing so as to overlie but not block orifice 13 and spaced from the tubing so as to provide a path for passage of fluid to the orifice 13. The device, may be provided with inflatable retention means 15. In modifications, the orifice may be covered by a band having openings spaced circumferentially from the orifice and the tubing may be provided with an irrigating lumen extending to an outlet not covered by the band in the tip of the tubing, see Fig. 2 (not shown); or the orifice may be located at the tip of the tubing and be covered by a cap having openings arranged circumferentially along the length of the tubing, see Fig. 3 (not shown); or the shield may be in the form of a band or patch with slits at its edges see Figs. 4, 6 (not shown).
