Abstract

1,163,573. Surgical cooling devices. SWALLOWFIELD AEROSOLS Ltd. 2 Sept., 1966 [4 Sept., 1965], No. 37892/65. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F1] A pressurised dispensing container for applying medicaments, e.g. refrigerant, such as dichlorodifluoromethane, to a skin growth, has a narrow bore or capillary discharge tube 15, and a guard tube 18 extending .beyond tube 15 and having a vent 23 for releasing pressure in tube 18, when its end 19 is applied to the skin growth, a reservoir 22 acting to collect condensed vapour. A heat-conductive plug may be fitted in the end 19 of the guard tube. In use, the area of skin is arranged horizontally, the tube end 19 is sealingly held against the growth, and a column of liquid refrigerant is discharged into tube 18, Fig. 2 (not shown). Alternatively, a flow of refrigerant vapour may be directed over the area to be treated, when the area cannot be arranged horizontally. Tubes 18 of different diameters may be used according to the size of the growth. In Fig. 3 (not shown), a tapered guard tube is reversibly mounted on the dischargs tube the guard tube being reversed according to the size of the growth. In Fig. 4 (not shown) the guard tube is open at both ends and mounted on the valve-actuating button. In Figs. 5 to 7 (not shown), the discharge and guard tubes are mounted on a valveactuating memlber with alternative locations of the reservoir and vent.
