Abstract

1,174,180. Printed circuit assemblies. SIEMENS A.G. 27 Nov., 1967 [28 Nov., 1966], No. 53764/67. Heading H1R. In the manufacture of a thin film circuit assembly a metal oxide layer is applied to one face of an electrically insulating carrier, a metal layer is deposited on the oxide layer and predetermined portions of the metal layer are removed to form at least parts of passive components, connecting paths and terminal surfaces. A glass or ceramic substrate 1 has deposited thereon a thin metal oxide layer of tantalum, aluminium, niobium or zirconium 2. A layer 3 of the metal contained in the oxide is then deposited over the metal oxide layer 2 after which capacitor 7, resistors 4, terminal areas 6 and printed conductors 5 are formed by a photoetch process. A transistor 8 may be attached to the circuit assembly. The metal oxide layer 2 is formed by cathode sputtering a metal layer on to the carrier and subsequently oxidizing the metal by an oxygen glow discharge. The subsequent metal layer 3 may be cathode sputtered. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 962,015.
