Abstract

1,174,120. Missile fins. BÍLKOW G.m.b.H. 20 Feb., 1967 [24 Feb., 1966], No. 8021/67. Headings B7G and B7W. [Also in Division F3] A device for pivoting the tail fins 9 of a jet-propelled missile launched from a tube 1, comprises a piston 14 to act on the roots 10 of the fins as the missile leaves the tube 1. Piston 14 has an external conical surface 17 which leads to a part spherical surface 18, and is moved axially along a sleeve 3 by gas pressure from the propulsion unit 34 passing through bores 30 into a chamber 28. Each fin root includes a wedge surface 11 and a rounded section 15, and is mounted on an eccentric pivot 8. Whilst the missile is in the tube 1 the fins are prevented from pivoting but immediately after it has left the tube, the piston 14 acts on the sections 15 to rotate the fins until the surface 17 is locked with the surface 11 by permanent deformation of one of the surfaces. In Fig. 3 (not shown), the wedge surface 11 includes an insert (12) of, e.g. aluminium.
