Abstract
1362217 Extruding A S ALEXANDROV V D SCHEGOLEVATYKH V I SAVELIEV and M F ZAKHAROV 6 Oct 1971 46388/71 Heading B3P A die assembly for extruding readily deformable alloy tubes comprises a die holder 1 with an inner cavity 2 whose wall is shaped as part of an ellipse and tapered towards the inlet 3 and outlet 4, a die 6, and a splitter 8 inside the cavity with its front edge 11 whithin the limits of the inlet. The cavity wall is defined by a pair of halfliners 14 located on each side of the splitter 8 which has two limbs. The splitter 8 is located relative to the die 6 by slots 10 in the die. The assembly is used for extruding hot aluminium billets in succession wherein the tail end of one billet is bonded to the leading end of the next billet. If a dummy block is used the die assembly reduces the amount of discard since the dummy block can approach close to the die assembly.
